As we come to the end of the story of 'Romeo and Juliet', we can see that the story ended in a tragic state. Beloved ones from each of the noble families died due to the conflict and hatred between each other.
The ones who suffered in a tragic death were Mercutio, Tybalt, Paris, Romeo, Juliet and Lady Montague.
Mainly, to prevent all these deaths from happening, the Montagues and Capulets should have tried to mantain peace with each other in the very beginning. Their hatred for each other may have been due to that their ancestors having an incident with each other which was then passed on to each generation.
However, if they have actually cared to understand each others' feelings by settling down to sort things out, they would have at the least understand each others' mindsets and thus, lowering the amount of hatred they have for each other.
In this story, every death was linked to the hatred between the two families.
Their servants fought with each other in the streets, causing chaos in the town. Even in frequent fights, it could have caused a life as they fought vigorously using swords.
Mercutio died because he wanted to fight with Tybalt.Romeo tried to stop them and Tybalt accidentally stabbed Mercutio, which eventually led to his death.
Devastated, Romeo wanted to avenge Mercutio. So he went to look for Tybalt and killed him.
As he was caught,he was banish from the city.
This led to Lady Montague's death as she was too sad about Romeo's banishment
Paris wanted to marry Juliet. As Romeo love Juliet too, he fought with Paris for her hand in marriage. It resulted in Paris's death.
In order to escape from her wedding with Paris,Juliet drank a potion that made her look like she was dead.
Romeo did not know of the plan and thought she was really dead.
He wanted to kill himself by drinking poison.
While drinking poison, Juliet woke up.
But it was too late, the poison took effect and Romeo died.
Juliet cannot live without Romeo. So she killed herself with a dagger.
If they decided to live in peace and harmony,Romeo and Juliet could have been together and none of this deaths would have occur.
The nurse witnessed all these things that occured, she could have prevented this things from happening by helping Juliet and Romeo see each other and at least report those incidents to the Prince of Verona.
Week 5- Tybalt's Death
Friday, February 5, 2010 8:17 PM
What a humid day! I was here in town again, trying to get my luck on having a wonderful day unlike the previous time when the fight between the two families occurred.
Then I noticed that both the families were in town too! "Oh gosh! I hope that nothing bad will happen like the last time," I thought to myself while smiling and waving to people who may have thought I was weird. Feeling rubber-necked and trying to avoid getting into any fight, I hid in a nearby shop - again.
Benvolio, Romeo's cousin, and Mercutio, Romeo's friend, were walking down the streets of Verona. I could see the sun rays burning down on them with their sweat congesting their faces which didn't seem to look 'fresh and clean' anymore.
Not wanting to be noticed of 'stalking' the young men, I could not really hear what they were talking about but noticed that they were deciding on whether to fight with the Capulets or not from the way their fiery eyes looked at them.
Our dear Tybalt walked towards the Montagues along with Sampson and Gregory, the foolish and childish servants who started the fight last time. I could see Benvolio being afraid of what would happen to the outcome of the two families meeting face-to-face once again but it seemed to me Mercutio was delighted to see them.
Strangely, Tybalt did not look for a fight with them when he topped the list on 'Who loves to fight the most' on my category. However, Mercutio, looking a bit dumb, took out his sword and happily wanted a fight with Tybalt - I knew this was coming, when Capulets and Montagues come together, sorry, they will never be together but the Capulets and Montagues are like North Pole, with North Pole, they will rebel again and again no matter what.
Did I just see what I saw?! Our dear Tybalt still declined on fighting with Mercutio! Am I dreaming? Has Tybalt finally calmed his nerves down? Oh no, wait, here comes Romeo my dear Juliet's husband. Tybalt seems to be firing up already.
Tybalt was furious to see Romeo that his greeting to him was, "Romeo, my heart is filled with hate when I see you." Then, I realised, the reason for Tybalt talking to the Mercutio's was to find Romeo and fight with him. Please do not fight.
As Romeo is now Juliet's husband and considered Tybalt's cousin, he loved Tybalt and did not want anything related to a fight. Whereas for Tybalt, he does not know this and his hatred for Romeo will continue like eternal flame. Thus, he still insisted on a fight.
Mercutio being there to see what happened, got even more furious that a Montague, weakly declined a fight towards their worst and only enemy. He could not take it in any longer and started to fight. Obviously, Tybalt fought back too - like he always does.
Romeo, being the actual peace maker, attempted to stop them by asking them to not fight in the open streets of Verona. He bravely got into the middle of the two and put his arms up to try to stop the unwanted fight but Tybalt managed to drive his sword into Mercutio. Mercutio was seriously injured that he passed away real soon. Before he did, he cursed both of the families as it was the feud between them that lead him to his death.
Due to this death, Tybalt ran away with the servants. However, showed up again after a while.
Having lost his precious friend, Mercutio, Romeo felt devastated, angry, sad and mixed emotions related to anger fell upon him. Thus, this resulted in Romeo having the desire to kill Tybalt - which he did in the end.
Soon after, the townspeople were arriving to the scene as they have heard about the commotion. People wanted to get their facts right on what exactly happened and it became quite noisy to hear what was really going on.
Then, I saw the Lord and Lady Capulet there, moaning over Tybalt's dead body. I felt really sad to lose him too but I just had to stay and hide at the store and watch from a distance. The Prince arrived once again and asked Benvolio to tell him what had happened. Benvolio, however, told half the story and did not mention that Mercutio had actually been the one who started the fight. Due to this, the Prince banished Romeo from Verona.
In my opinion, none of them deserved to die - no matter how much hatred they had for each other. In whatever fight they have fought against each other, nothing worked out and more fuel was added to the fire between them. The fights were always so useless and it just made everyone not in a good mood. Murder, banishment, what is all this?! If only we could have peace. From what I have read, "If there is to be peace in the world, there must be peace in the nations. If there is to be peace in the nations, there must be peace in the cities. If there is to be peace in the cities, ...there must be peace between neighbors. If there is to be peace between neighbors, there must be peace in the home. If there is to be peace in the home, there must be peace in the heart." Only if the two families knew this. Things are just getting worse and I really hope things will be solved out amicably with everyone filled with joy - I can only hope.
While I was at towns square which was a stones throw away from the Capulet family's estate, I saw our dear servants, Sampson and Gregory, not really a far distance off the shops that were lined up along the sides of the crowded town.
I was going to give them a big wave in the air to greet them during such a wonderful day when I noticed the rude expressions the two of them were giving to another two young men who seemed to look like servants from the Montague family."Here we go again," was what I thought as I quickly walked to a shop to prevent from interfering their fight-to-be situation.
Not wanting to miss out anything they were arguing about, I decided to eavesdrop from a safe distance. From what my ears could hear, the four young childish men were arguing on whose family was better which caused them to fight - especially the most childish one of all of them, Sampson, the one who started this whole useless fight with just a stare and childish words. Not only Sampson but why had Gregory not stop this foolish Sampson?
As expected, this small fight caused by Capulet's very own servants caused the whole town to create chaos for the third time round. I sighed deeply. Luckily for us, Prince Charming, Prince Escalus, was there to save the day once again. After that, the situation calmed a whole lot down and the prince went on to talk to the Capulets and Montagues separately.
I was planning to have a nice day off at towns square but this was what happened as I was having a wonderful time there by just walking around.Truthfully, I always felt like giving a suggestion to the prince for a punishment if there were to be a fight like this. The punishment could be different according to how bad it is. For example, if it was a minor fight, maybe just sincere apology would do. However, for the Capulets and Montagues, a minor fight between them would be impossible - it has to be a BIG fight.
Thus, I hope the prince could actually work it out with the two families to bring them together on good terms by getting to know their opinions on how they feel about each other and work it out through reflective moments and counseling.
It sounds too much but what can we do when these two noble families just won't stop? I give you a deep sigh once again.
